It’s been a long hard winter here in Tennessee. We’ve had record snowfall and temps and I’ve had enough!!! So, who’s getting tired of this dam? I swear it’s the nastiest place to shoot but you could never tell from these pictures and I always bring home something cool to work with from shooting here. When I arrived there my little friend (the blue heron) had already arrived and was ready for his closeup!! Anyway, hope everyone is staying warm and here’s to warmer weather!!

My friend Donna always blogs her recipes and even a few of mine. I guess it’s time I did one! She’s been after me a while to do it, so here we go! Breakfast is a pretty important meal around my house. Everyone expects it and I enjoy it too. Can’t seem to get going without some breakfast, and oh yeah, coffee! This morning’s menu included apple fried pies, some fruit, bacon, and coffee. A co-worker of mine brought in these “fried” pies one day and I quickly added them to my breakfast list of foods. They are so easy and you will probably have most of the ingredients on hand. All you need is your favorite can biscuits and whatever pie filling is your favorite. We really love apple, but you could use any that you like!
- Flour your surface real well and roll out each biscuit as flat as possible into a circle.
- Put a spoonful of your pie filling in the middle and fold the biscuit into a half circle. Use a fork to seal the edges.
- After you have filled all your biscuits, put them on a preheated frying pan (you can coat the surface with a non-stick spray if not using a non-stick pan) and brown each side of the pie.
- After they are lightly browned, put in the a preheated 400 degree oven and continue cooking about 5-7 minutes until the dough if fully cooked.
- I usually lightly dust mine with powdered sugar and my family likes to use whatever pie filling is left to put on top.
Hope you all enjoy!!

I’m a little late posting this (about a week) but better late than never! Last weekend I met up with some really good friends at Shelby Park in Nashville, TN. We were all suffering from cabin fever and needed to get out and shoot! It was a little drab, but the sunset, as well as the company, was fantastic. The bridge at Shelby Park is one of my favorite things to shoot. It’s old, rusty, and has real character. I look forward to heading back there in the spring!

As we were leaving F15′s flew overhead!

I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t stay for the really breathtaking sunset colors that developed after we had all packed up our gear. Lesson learned! Do not pack up so early, wait it out!!

Wow, I can’t believe a whole year has passed since I first started my blog. There have been times when I’ve blogged a lot and then nothing at all for weeks (months, sorry!). Along with the new year, I have decided to take on a new project. A while back I think I got into a little rut. I didn’t pick up my camera in weeks which is very very rare for me. Maybe I felt uninspired or caught up in my everyday obligations, I really don’t know! This year I’ve resolved to pick up my camera and shoot away, which is where this 365 project comes in. A few weeks ago a Flickr contact posted on Facebook about a man who bought a box of negatives at an auction house. He was intrigued by the contents. The box held a treasure of negatives from a lady named Vivian Maier. To maintain the cost of collection be began selling the pictures on eBay, finally realizing that he had a treasure on his hands in terms of history. Little by little he had a huge following who were fascinated with the story, but were even more enthralled with her pictures. Her work is captivating. Her passion for photography comes through her beautiful street photography and portraits. This got me to thinking what people would think of my pictures one day. Would they have the same appreciation? Would my pictures someone portray a glimpse into a time long gone? Would they show the love I have for photography and the joy that it brings me? I hope my project will show a little of that and so far I have felt renewed with my daily picture taking. I’m looking the world again and wondering just how I’m going to capture it!

Adams, TN has captured my heart. It has everything I love: intrigue (Bell witch), beautiful countryside, awesome old houses, and some ultra cool abandoned buildings. When driving in the old downtown area, you might get the feeling that you’ve just entered the twilight zone. Very deserted, few people, and some spooky old businesses that are totally empty and in a sad state of disrepair. My friend Denise was so kind to be my guide and it we’d had more time I could have taken a gazillion more pictures. So, until next time, these will have to do!

Ever have one of those days?? I seem to be having a few of those lately! Well I’m not a housewife nor am I mad, but this bottle of wine caught my eye and so I bought it! However, I do feel like saying “This IS what’s for dinner, honey” all the time! So to all of you out there with busy lives pulling you every direction, this post (glass of wine!) is for you!!

I’ve always been drawn to old buildings and houses and the older the better! I took off one day shooting with a fellow photog, Denise. She told me about shooting in Adams, TN (home of the famous Bell Witch) and I was instantly fascinated especially since the story of the Bell Witch was a fave of mine since I was a young girl. The story use to scare the living daylights out of me! We first hit the countryside in search of tobacco barns. We found some really nice barns and on one particular piece of property was an old house. It was like a beacon was going off inside of me. I had to get up close to shoot it. I wanted to see in it and that probably wasn’t the best thing to do, but it was too good to pass up. I’m intrigued by old empty homes. I want to know its story: who built it, when, why, who lived there, and why did they leave it? This was a small home, in rough condition, but with some great features. I know that Denise and I could get in a lot of trouble taking pictures of these old places!!

I was so happy and honored to take the engagement pictures of my co-worker’s daughter and soon to be son-in-law! I was thrilled that they trusted me enough to capture this special occasion. We met at Cannonsburgh on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It was a perfect day for taking pictures and the place was crawling with photographers capturing other special moments. Adam and Karen were a breeze and just so happy. It was a joy sharing this day with them!
